Newborn
There's nothing quite like those first few weeks with a brand-new baby. The world goes quiet and small — sleepy mornings, the weight of a tiny body against your chest, the way time seems to stretch and disappear all at once. That's exactly the feeling I wanted to hold onto during this cozy newborn session, and I'm so glad I got to.
Keeping it soft, simple, and real
For this session, we kept everything light, neutral, and calm. No big props, no fuss — just soft natural light, simple ribbed knits, and a whole lot of snuggles. There's a reason I gravitate toward this style for newborns: when you strip everything back, what's left is the good stuff. The curl of a tiny fist. The little furrowed brow mid-dream. The quiet way a parent's hands instinctively cradle and protect.
And those hands. If you look closely at these images, so many of them are about the hands — a dad's arm wrapped completely around his little one, a mom's palm cupped gently beneath a fuzzy head. Newborns are so impossibly small in those early days, and capturing them held safe in their parents' arms is one of my very favorite things to photograph. It's the kind of image you'll look back on years from now and barely believe they were ever that tiny.
The little details worth remembering
Newborns change so fast — faster than almost any other stage. The wrinkly little feet, the peach-fuzz hair, the way they ball themselves up like they're still tucked in tight. Within weeks, those details soften and shift and grow. That's the whole reason these sessions matter so much to me. We're not just making pretty pictures; we're freezing a fleeting, never-to-return version of your baby exactly as they are right now.
I love photographing the close-ups — those itty-bitty fingers, the pout of sleepy lips, the soft fold of a brand-new ear. But I love the connection shots even more. The ones where you can feel how loved this little person already is.
Welcome to the world, sweet one
Sessions like this are a reminder of why I do what I do. A new baby is the beginning of a whole new story, and getting to document the very first chapter is such an honor. To this family — thank you for trusting me with these early, tender days. Your little one is so loved, and it shows in every single frame.
Congratulations. These soft, sleepy mornings won't last forever, but now you'll always have them to look back on.
