A Spring Evening in Boulder: Lainee & Tyler's Maternity Session

Some sessions just line up. The light, the location, the season, the people — every piece falls into place at the same moment, and all I have to do is show up and catch it. That's exactly what happened during Lainee and Tyler's maternity session this spring in Boulder, and I'm still a little obsessed with how it turned out.

When the light does half the work

We timed this one for that golden stretch of early evening, and Boulder delivered. The spring grass was unreal — that vivid, electric green you only get for a few short weeks before the summer sun starts to dry everything out. With the pines behind them and the foothills rolling into the distance, the whole scene practically glowed. The lighting was so soft and perfect that the green came alive in every frame. Honestly, there's no filter that recreates a spring evening in the Front Range. You just have to be there for it.

There's something poetic about photographing new life surrounded by all that fresh new growth. The timing felt right in a way I can't fully put into words.

All about the two of them

What made this session so special wasn't just the scenery — it was Lainee and Tyler. You can feel how excited they are in every photo. There's that tender, hand-on-the-bump tenderness in the close, quiet moments, and then there's the pure joy when they look at each other and just start laughing. Those in-between beats, where they forget the camera is even there, are always my favorite. That's where the real connection lives.

Lainee absolutely glowed. The crisp white button-up over her bump against all that green was such a beautiful, simple choice — timeless and fresh at the same time. And Tyler, with his steady arm wrapped around her, was the perfect partner to lean into. Together they radiated that specific kind of happiness that belongs to couples on the edge of becoming a family of three.

The calm before everything changes

Maternity sessions hold a really tender place in my heart. They capture a season that feels long while you're in it but vanishes the second your baby arrives — that last stretch of just-the-two-of-you, full of anticipation and dreaming about who this little person will be. Soon enough, life gets wonderfully loud and busy and sleepless. But for one golden evening in a Boulder meadow, time slowed down, and we got to hold onto the quiet wonder of almost.

Lainee and Tyler, thank you for letting me document this chapter for you. I cannot wait to meet your little one — and I have a feeling those newborn snuggles are going to be just as sweet as this evening was.

Congratulations, you two. The best is yet to come.
